Cooking For Two
Couples who live alone often end up eating out rather than cooking at home. The reasons are that cooking for two can be a tiresome chore when you need to make a small portion, and financially you don't really save much – eating out can be just the same cost wise. On the other hand, preparing meals at home is the healthiest way to eat. The solution could be as simple as preparing your meals in advance, in large portions, and refrigerating them for future.
Making the plan
Cooking, like everything else is best executed when planned well in advance. You could plan your meals for the entire month right at the beginning when you are making your monthly budget. Do take in considerations like sudden guests, or the weekend party and things like that. Meals such as stews, curries and steaks can be refrigerated for a long time so you could include such things in your list. Once you have your list ready, go ahead and make the purchases. Carry your list when you go shopping – this will keep you from overspending at the mall! In today's lifestyles people really don't have the time to cook everyday – there is no such thing as a housewife today you know, not that it's necessary either! The partner who stays at home (if)-maybe works from home, is aware of how time can be best utilized for productive reasons and cooking everyday does sound like one of the worst ways to utilize time doesn't it! Well, to get around this time factor, you could plan out a weekly ‘cooking day'. Make large portions on this day and supplement the curry, or whatever you prepare with quick fixes like rice or bread on the day that you eat it.
Executing the cooking plan effectively
When it is only two people sharing a meal, you often have leftovers. Do get rid of leftovers quickly. Either refrigerate them immediately and use up the next day, or throw them away if their quantity in minimum. If you have pets in the house, maybe they would enjoy leftovers of grilled meat and the likes of that. Remember, if you are giving your pet dog leftover meat, spices are bad for animals so wash the meat with running water, and maybe boil once before you feed the animals with it. If you use a little extra of everything, you could actually save time that would be spent cooking separately for your pet. It's a great idea to keep salads in the fridge. Remember not to leave salads unattended to for too long, they tend to soak up moisture and become soggy. Foods that can be kept as ready-to-fry items are best for refrigeration. You could use the refrigeration factor to your advantage by storing marinated steaks and barbeque material – as we all know, the longer the marinating period the better the steak.
